The ghost meets a mushroom

St Michael's Church on Camden Road under a grey sky, near where Camden POP Handmade was held.

We were at Camden POP Handmade on Saturday 19 September, 12 to 6pm, with @ShoreditchPOP, at St Michael's Church, Camden Road, London NW1 9LQ. Grey skies most of the day -- the kind that makes you glad of a table to lean on and people either side of it.

The ghost meets a mushroom

Little Ghost Reading left its usual spot on the table again -- it does that, we've noticed -- and turned up in a stranger's hand next to a small crocheted mushroom with a bright red spotted cap and a stitched-on smile. The mushroom belongs to Honey Bee Stitches, who crochets these little creatures one loop at a time, and who we're very glad now shares a table's-width of space with us.

Two very different crafts, five minutes into a friendship.

A card holder we did not ask for

A few tables down, Pollock Designs was glazing ceramic dishes in colours we do not have the words for -- a mustard that goes translucent at the edges, a black that turns out to be a thousand tiny bubbles up close. By the end of the afternoon our business cards had a home: a small pink dish, made and given for no better reason than that she wanted us to have one.

The kind of gift that ends up living on the table permanently.

And a visitor from much further off

Somewhere in the middle of the afternoon, Extra Emily stopped by -- an influencer, over from Texas, with no obvious reason to be at a church in Camden on a grey Saturday. We were thrilled, and made no real attempt to hide it.

Where we're next

Bodega Urban Market -- Mid-Autumn Festival, Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, 10am to 6pm both days, at Canary Garden Cafe, 77 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SH. Same ghosts, we imagine, new company.
